Some cute cartoon girl sketches to bring in the New Year!

So I've been attempting to draw straight in ink in my sketchbooks and do looser pencils in my comic pages to discover something new in my work.

1). Chunky Monkey, an attempt to create a video game fighter that was  pleasantly plump and fitting to her ice cream inspired name.

                                                             2). Manga studio color job.

3). Girl tripping is a straight in ink attempt,  white out was used, I also cut and pasted scrap paper( to fix head) and color pencil.

Happy New year!

80's TV Show Sketch: Buck Rogers in the 25th Century!!!

A great show and the predecessor to Farscape, is how I would describe season 1 of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.  Although season 2 and 3 had some memorable characters the change in settings of a ravaged earth in the future to a cruise liner(complete with uniforms) really was too much.  Even a mini skirted, Erin Gray couldn't distract from the absence of Mel Blanc as the voice of Twiki, the robot!

in progress.

Hey, so this week's sketch is a look at a few characters of mine that will be appearing in a new comix  episode of Vegas Street, come January. And the little scrap drawing below is just me thinking with ink.
(Copic brush pen for both)

#Inktober:Happy Halloween

Today someone taped a bright green flyer to my door , so while waiting for Matt to get going for our trip to Bookoff, I flipped it over and started doodling with a ballpoint pen. Happy Hallow Weenie!

#inktober : Caravan Kid

The most influential comic on my developement as a cartoonist during the 90's. And it still holds a special place in my heart to this day, although over time the 3 volumes of this series was tragecly lost to me during a series of cross country moves.

#inktober : 90's comic

The Return of Lum was a huge 90's comic for me and was the 3rd japanese title I collected monthly.

MATT's Inktober Day 10

#Inktober 10th - "Giants Among Us"!

I always dug the David vs. Goliath theme in stories.  Some giants are bigger than others, but they are giants none the less.

Matt's #Inktober Day 9

All caught up on my Inktober pics!  And this kid looks, more than a little, caught by surprise!
Don't worry, he looks like a runner to me.

INKTOBER DAY 7 - "ELF PRINCESS"

Still doing a little catch up with this elf huntress.  I really like the elegance and crisp precision that elves display in their movements and regal look.  That is what I tried to capture in this INKTOBER piece.  On top of that, elves make me think of autumn, so fallen leaves must adorn.

Matt's #Inktober :Day 6

Thought I'd draw a little unicorn.  They seem so mysterious and magical, it only made sense that
you might find on in an old box. Locked away in an old unused storage room.

Unbeknownst to Little Red a comforter in the form of a female elf watched over him through out the night.

Mikey's #inktober :Day 4

Hey sorry it is late but the ink was still drying last nite when I decided to call it a nite.  Day five will be up shortly later tonight.

Inktober 4th - "ZAP!"

Better late than never.   Today's Sci-fi topic was "Laser Gun".
I think it comes off with a Judge Dredd vibe, which was totally unintentional.
At least I got to play around with the white ink spatter!

Mikey's Inktober: Day 3

"What!? And they gave that little Pipsqueak my Four Star Danger Rating!!!!"

Inktober 3rd - "Alien Popstand"

Today's installment for Inktober 3rd, "Alien Popstand"!   You know the rest!
I wanted to utilize this month to go beyond my comfort zone, and really tackle the black and white medium in a way I usually don't.

Mikey #inktober Day2

12 days after crashing on a desert planet, Captain Mikey and his android, salvage a downed freighter to make the proper repairs and get his crew underway.

Inktober 2nd! "Dead End"!

Second installment for Inktober!
The theme this week is Sci-fi and the topic is "Android".
These are more of an exercise in attempting new inking techniques.  One of those was capturing an interior reflection in a window.  Didn't completely turn out as I had hoped, but certainly learned some valuable techniques for next time around!

Next: Mikey's "Android" piece for Inktober 2nd!

Weekly Sketch Update for Saturday!

Hey guys and gals!    This weeks update is technically a Saturday update but looking ahead at my busy schedule I decided to crank this out last Sunday and post it today.
The sketch was based on a Japanese wrestler who has a pirate persona, so I created the Tsunami Elbow Drop for her nautical theme.  (sketched at the Laundromat in dollar store brush pen and toned in Manga Studio 5 at home.)
Next update Sunday Oct 5th!

Friday's Sketch:Japanese Luchador

This week's sketch is a Japanese Luchador I discovered originally from a series of GIF animation while browsing the web.  I  decided to do a little experimenting here and I had some fun mixing markers with manga studio color overlays.
Hope to see you next week for a Saturday update!

Wednesday's sketch

Been working on some projects that I can't show at the moment, as a result this blog has been kinda' dead like the rest of my social media sites.

Not good!

So I have decided to show a sketch every week , rotating Mon-Sun.

Today sketch is from Star Trek episode -"Mirror, Mirror". Rowwrrrr! Michele Nichols!!!

See you next Next week, next Thursday!

Casey up at bat!

My take on Casey Jones. Its safe to assume that a vigilante roaming around town with two baseball bats, and wearing a hockey mask, isn't a whiffer. Shut up crime! Tools: Brush pen on sketchbook paper

Brush sketching

Working with a new Niji, watercolor brush that I filled with Sumi ink. So far I'm really enjoying its handling. Added a few details with a pen. More updates shortly. -MATT

Super Man!

I recently purchased my first superman comic, Super Man #400  discovered in the dollar bin.        What I found inside funny was enough a Superman anthology absent of the title character, well at least not in the way the more familiar might expect to view him.  I posted one of the shorts to view on my facebook account if you are interested.    https://www.facebook.com/mikey.cossin/media_set?set=a.10201911555294927.1073741825.1365399966&type=1

Mikey's Marvel comics flashback:Power Man and Iron Fist!

Looking through the back issue bin again at SoCal Comics in San Diego I picked up some copies of Power Man and Iron Fist that I had been missing out on!  Love spotting great artist like Larry Hama, Frank Miller, Denys Cowan, Ernie Chan peppered throughout the series.
Definitely in my top 3 Marvel titles of all times!
Enjoy,

Turtle Power

A tip of the hat to the old Mirage Studio T.M.N.T. days.
The originals, carved out of gristle and bone ; and presented by frenetic slashes of ink and duo-tone on the printed page.

Replaced by a sleek, effeminate model. An amalgam of Life Time Network movies and the Archie comic series.
Pour some out for the homies.
Turtle Power,

A quick sketch for a still Monday Post!

Still one of my favorite team-ups, Power Man and Iron Fist!  I updated them a little from their seventies street attire to matching track jackets.  See the finished look next Monday and stay tuned for Matt's Wed. post!

"Go ahead, make my Millennium!"

If you haven't heard of The Galaxy Rangers, and you like 80's scifi, you need to check it out!
Its a kind of Wild West meets Flash Gordon adventure animation.  Not only does this show have one of the coolest openings, they even modeled one of the Rangers (Goose) off of Clint Eastwood.

This is my tribute, "Dirty" Harry Callahan style!  You feelin' lucky, punk?

Mikey's redo- Guardians of the Galaxy:Rocket Raccoon

So as promised my take on Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy!
I gave him a backpack with little retractable rockets instead of the 70's style foot pads he wore.  The theory being if they jets were to extend past his center area he could avoid igniting his tail on fire when he takes off!
Enjoy!
